First Ever National Day of Ayurveda being celebrated throughout the country today ‘Mission Madhumeh through Ayurveda’ launched the National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards given away. The First National Ayurveda Day is being celebrated throughout the country on the occasion of Dhanwantari Jayanti today. A Seminar on “Prevention and Control of Diabetes through Ayurveda” was held in New Delhi today. An Ayurveda Day logo was also released on the occasion. The National Dhanwantary Ayurveda Awards were also given away today.
Mental stress could be one of the important reasons behind diabetes. A holistic management of the disease is required, including Ayurveda, Unani, Naturopathy, Yoga and lifestyle management.
Hon’ble Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge), Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, launched the “Mission Madhumeh through Ayurveda” on the occasion today.
There was a demand to declare Dhanwantari Jayanti as Ayurveda Day for a long time, so the government decided to go ahead and do the same, the AYUSH Minister explained.
An Ayurveda compendium on diabetes research “Ayurveda for Diabetes Care” developed by CCRAS, was released on the occasion. Ayurveda Protocol for Prevention and Control of Diabetes’ was issued at the seminar. A booklet on healthy recipes for diabetes, developed by All India Institute of Ayurveda, was also released on the occasion.
2nd Ayurveda Day 2017 :
The theme of the 2nd Ayurveda Day was “Ayurveda for Pain Management.”.
2nd Ayurveda Day was celebrated on 16th & 17th October 2017 with the theme of “Ayurveda for Pain Management”. On 16 October 2017, One day National Seminar on “Ayurveda for Pain Management” and “AYUSH–CII Industry Conclave” in which the central theme was developing strategies to facilitate the growth of Ayurveda’s market size was held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Approximately 500 delegates participated in the Seminar. The main function of Ayurveda Day was celebrated at All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Sarita Vihar, on 17th October 2017 & AIIA was dedicated to the nation. Approximately 1,500 delegates participated in the event.
Aspects related to Pain Management through Ayurveda and how to promote the Ayurveda Market in coming years were discussed. The Ministry developed the “Ayurvedic Standard Treatment Guidelines” which were released on this occasion. A short film on the scientific relevance of Ayurveda was screened and the National AYUSH Morbidity & Standardized Terminologies Portal (NAMSTP) was also launched on this occasion.
Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India has set up Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences for undertaking coordinating, formulating, developing and promoting research on scientific lines in Ayurvedic sciences through medicinal plant research (Medico-ethno botanical survey, pharmacognosy and tissue culture), Drug Standardization Pharmacological Research, Clinical Research Literary Research and Documentation. The activities of the Council are carried out through 30 institutes/ Centres/ Units located all over India and also through collaborative studies with various universities, hospitals and institutes.
3rd Ayurveda Day 2018 :
The theme of the 3rd Ayurveda Day was “Ayurveda for Public Health.”.
Ayurveda is perceived as one of the well-documented systems of medicine. Prevention of disease and promotion of health is the main aim of Ayurveda. Lord Dhanvantari is considered a divine propagator of Ayurveda. Therefore, Dhanvantari Jayanti was preferred for the celebration of Ayurveda Day by the Ministry of AYUSH to nationalise this system of medicine.
The Ayurveda Day was observed across India on November 5, 2018, on the occasion of the Dhanawantari Jayanti or Dhanteras with an aim to further promote Ayurveda as the mainstream system of medicine.
All the State Governments, State AYUSH Directorates, all Ayurveda colleges/ teaching institutions, AYUSH/Health Universities, Associations of Ayurveda Practitioners, Ayurveda Drug Industries and stakeholders of Ayurveda in India and abroad observed the 3rd Ayurveda Day centred on this theme.
4th Ayurveda Day 2019 :
The theme of the 4th Ayurveda Day was “Ayurveda for longevity.”.
The 4th Ayurveda Day will be organized on 25th October 2019 at the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Dhanwantari Pujan and the “National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards -2019” ceremony will be held at NIA in the gracious presence of Shri Om Birla, Speaker, Lok Sabha as Chief Guest. MoS (IC) for the Ministry of AYUSH & Defence Shri. Shripad Yesso Naik will also be present. On this occasion, a National Conference ‘ Ayurveda for Longevity’ will also be organized on 24th October 2019. Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will be the Chief Guest.

5th Ayurveda Day 2020 :
The theme of the 5th Ayurveda Day was “Ayurveda for COVID-19”.
The potential role of Ayurveda in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic will be the focus of this year’s ‘Ayurveda Day’ observation. Ayurveda Day has been observed every year since 2016 on the day of Dhanwantri Jayanti. This year, it falls on 13th November 2020..
The Objective of Ayurveda Day is to focus on the strengths of Ayurveda and its unique treatment principles, to work towards reducing the burden of disease and related mortality by utilising the potential of Ayurveda, to tap into the potential of Ayurveda to contribute towards National Health Policy and National Health programmes, and to promote Ayurvedic principles of healing in society. Thus, Ayurveda Day is more an occasion of re-dedication to the profession and the society than one of festivities or celebrations.
A webinar on the ‘Ayurveda for Covid-19 Pandemic’ theme will be organised on ‘Ayurveda Day.’ It aims to be an occasion for virtual information dissemination about the various initiatives of the Ayurveda discipline to mitigate COVID-19. About 1.5 lakh participants from all over the world are expected to attend the webinar. The Ministry of AYUSH has also requested embassies/missions abroad to observe the ‘Ayurveda Day’ with appropriate activities to engage the public.
6th Ayurveda Day 2021 :
The theme of the 6th Ayurveda Day was “AYURVEDA FOR POSHAN”.
To exhibit the strength of Ayurveda in our daily regimen of food through innovative and healthy recipes, the Ministry of AYUSH will release videos prepared by the National Institute of Ayurveda on the occasion of ‘6th Ayurveda Day’ tomorrow, November 2nd.
The Ministry will also launch a short film based on scientific achievements in the field of ‘Ayurveda Poshan’. The film has been made by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH.
Among other important events that will take place during the celebrations include the launch of a web portal, the unveiling of the Ayurveda Swasthya Samiksha Booklet and Ayurveda for Poshan documents, release of NIA Nutri Cookies, unveiling of various CCRAS publications and release of manuscript publications.
The Ayurveda Day celebrations are being held under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. The theme this year is ‘Ayurveda for Poshan'.
7th Ayurveda Day 2022 :
The theme of the 7th Ayurveda Day was “Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda”.
The Ayurveda Day is to be celebrated with the motto “Har Ghar Har Din Ayurveda” on October 23 Among other important events that will take place during the celebrations include the launch of a web portal, the unveiling of Ayurveda Swasthya Samiksha Booklet and Ayurveda for Poshan documents, the release of NIA Nutri Cookies, unveiling of various CCRAS publications and release of manuscript publications.
The Ayurveda Day celebrations are being held under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. The theme this year is ‘Ayurveda for Poshan’.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said that Ayurveda is the science of prevention of disease. It’s ancient knowledge and our research councils are doing some impressive research work in the Ayush sector. They further said that the objective of har din har Ghar Ayurvedic camping is to take Ayurveda and its potential to the masses. Ayurveda is now known globally and this is because of the continuous and untiring efforts of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
On this occasion, Shri Arjun Munda said,“Ayurveda is India’s ancient tradition and wealth. Ayurveda can be nurtured in association with the people living in the forests. Ayurveda is the only medical science that talks about prevention of disease, not treatment after getting sick.”
Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai said that the Ministry of Ayush has accelerated the Ayush system of health in the country and Ayurveda is now recognized in 30 countries. He further informed that the current turnover of Ayush is $18.1 billion.
Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi said, “It’s time to appreciate the science of our ancestors. A science which is more than 5,000 years old is celebrated on the occasion of Ayurveda Day under the supervision of our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. He always promoted the science of Ayurveda and in the last few years, it has reached its peak.”
On this occasion, a book on ‘The Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India’, ‘The Ayurvedic Formulary of India’ was released. To create awareness about the health benefits of medicinal plants, a species-specific national campaign on Ashwagandha – A health promoter was launched by the Ministry of AYUSH.
